When the Hospital Bed Is No Longer Needed

A parent has recovered, moved into long-term care, or passed on. The adjustable bed still sits in the bedroom, rails up, control pendant hanging from the frame. Beside it, maybe a wheelchair, a commode chair, a walking frame propped against the wall. None of it belongs in the house anymore, but none of it fits in a bin either.

First: Check Whether the Bed Is Rented

Many home hospital beds in Singapore are rented from medical-supply companies. If yours is, it goes back to them — not to a disposal service. Check the paperwork, or call the supplier whose sticker is usually on the frame or motor housing. Rental beds are their property, and most companies arrange their own collection.

If the bed is owned outright and you've confirmed nobody else in the family or community needs it, that's where we come in. A bed in working order may still be useful to another family or a charitable organisation — worth asking around before you call for disposal.

How We Handle a Hospital Bed

A home hospital bed is heavy steel on lockable castors, with an electric motor and actuators built into the frame. In our 10+ years of clearing Singaporean homes, we've moved enough of these to know the sequence by heart.

The headboard and footboard lift off first. Side rails unclip next. The frame itself usually separates into two or three sections at bolted joints — that's the only way it fits back through a bedroom door and into a standard passenger lift. The wired hand control, the control box, and any backup battery inside the motor housing all come out as a unit.

Our crew of two to four handles the dismantling on-site. You don't need to take anything apart yourself.

Where It All Goes

We don't dump everything in one pile. A hospital bed that still functions may be routed into second-hand channels where possible. The electric motor, wiring, hand control and control box are e-waste — these get sorted and sent through proper recycling channels separately from the steel frame, which goes to scrap-metal recycling.

Pressure mattresses and their pumps follow the same split: electrical components one way, non-recyclable materials another. We won't pretend every gram gets reused, but we route what we can away from landfill.

HDB and Condo — What to Know

HDB flats don't have a service lift. The dismantled bed sections travel through your corridor and into the standard passenger lift. Condos and private apartments often require MCST approval for bulky-item removal and a booked service lift slot. You'll need to arrange that with your building management before the pickup day. Lift padding, where your MCST requires it, is provided by the management office.

What if the hospital bed is rented from a medical-supply company? A rented bed belongs to the supplier. Check your rental agreement or the sticker on the frame and contact them to arrange return collection. We only dispose of beds that you own outright.

Do you buy or pay for hospital beds and wheelchairs? No. We're a disposal service, not a buyback dealer. We don't offer cash, credit or trade-in value for any items we collect. If the bed still works and has value, we'd suggest offering it to someone who needs it before calling us.

Can you take the wheelchair, commode chair and walking frame at the same time? Yes. Most home-care clearances include several pieces of equipment beyond the bed itself.
