The Town Council Route — Free, But With Conditions
Your town council (Tanjong Pagar TC, Ang Mo Kio TC, Jurong-Clementi TC, whichever serves your block) does offer bulky-item collection at no charge. Worth knowing the fine print:
- They won't take a whole sofa. The item needs to be dismantled first — broken down into pieces small enough for their scheduled collection crew to handle.
- Collection happens on fixed days, not on demand. You'll wait for the next scheduled slot.
- If you leave an intact sofa at the void deck hoping they'll take it, it stays there. Possibly with a notice taped to it.
For a lightweight two-seater IKEA frame you can unbolt yourself, the TC route works fine. For a heavy recliner with steel mechanisms, or an L-shape that weighs north of 80kg assembled, dismantling it yourself is a genuine physical project.
What We Actually Do
We pick up from inside your unit. Not the void deck, not the corridor — your living room, your bedroom, wherever the sofa currently sits.
If the sofa fits through your door intact, we carry it out whole. If it doesn't — and L-shapes rarely do — we dismantle on-site. That means removing legs, unbolting modular sections, or cutting fabric to separate a frame that was originally assembled inside the room. We bring the tools; you don't need to prep anything.
Salvageable sofas in decent condition get routed into second-hand channels where possible. Frames with broken springs or water damage go to proper disposal through licensed intermediaries. Either way, your living room is clear within the hour.
HDB Logistics
No service lift in HDB blocks — that's a condo thing. Your sofa travels through the same passenger lift everyone uses, or down the stairwell if the lift is too small. We've handled oversized sectionals in older Ang Mo Kio blocks where the lift barely fits a single-seater. Corridor width, lift dimensions, and whether we need to tilt the piece on its side — all factored in before we arrive.
Condo Logistics
Condos typically have a service lift and loading bay, but every MCST has its own rules about booking slots, padding requirements, and approved access hours. You'll need to arrange approval with your building management before our pickup. Let us know the access constraints when you send photos for your quote, and we'll plan accordingly.
